Going into my fourth month in Europe, I must say my perspective is quite different from when I started. Now that I have a bike, the city passes by me much faster on the street. :) Why did I go so long without one?! When I arrived, it was in the midst of a rare heat wave, and now it’s rainy, windy and brisk with still quite a few brave colored leaves clinging to their branches, unwilling as I am to allow winter to stride in.
The month of October found me in Romania leading a team of photography students documenting the lives of the Gypsy people. I left the mountains of Transylvania carrying a gypsy family from a small village in my heart. God had brought us together, and I was touched by their regal spirits in the midst of all that poverty, knowing that God is dreaming bigger things for them than they dream for themselves.
The photo school has ended, and I know this time has changed me. I’ve grown in my photography and in my philosophy of why I take photos. I’ve seen in action how just because I hold a camera, the willingness of people to let me into their lives, people I might otherwise not have the opportunity to know. What a privilege. But it doesn’t just stop with photography….
I’ve been challenged and inspired by my friends that I also have had the honor of working alongside during this time. And we all pray that this time together will not be the last, but will propel us into future times. The dream goes on…
I am learning to wait on God, to allow being with Him to be all that I need, while at the same time waiting for Him to lead me into whatever or wherever is next.
