I’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of so many people on this trip. I will for surely end this trip greatly in other people’s debt. I only hope I move somewhere cool soon so that people can come visit me and I can try to show them the same hospitality I have been shown. My time with my friend Seung Yeon and her family in Korea was definitely no deviation from this generosity, but a prime example of it!
Together we strolled parks in the afternoons and wandered around the busy shopping streets in Myong Dong in the most perfect weather. I ate all the Korean food I could get. It’s so unique in flavor from any other ethnic food and very spicy (going both ways, if you catch my drift, hahahaha ;-) oh boy.) My favorite Korean food is their BBQ– each table has it’s own little grill where you grill your own meat, top it with sauces, wrap it all in a piece of lettuce, and pop the whole wad in your mouth. Taste buds singing!!
Seung Yeon, so beautful!
On my last night, I went with Seung Yeon and her sister and boyfriend to “miniature world”. I wasn’t quite clear on what this meant until we got there. It was literally many of the world’s wonders (Eiffel tower, Big Ben, Red Square, Taj Mahal, etc, etc) all in scaled-down size smashed into a small area (but what isn’t in Asia?). True to Asian form, the paths are complete with little footprints showing you where to best get your photo taken with that monument in the background. Don’t tell anyone, but inside, I was smugly pleased at all the places that I’ve already managed to see in person. It was something like the satisfaction of getting to cross off an item on a To Do List, even if you have to add that item after already completing the task (oh, come on, some of you can relate– you know who you are!). At the end of the day, however, I only added to my ever-expanding list of the must-see places in life.
After spending many stress-filled hours on the phone unsuccessfully trying to confirm my flight to Manila, I surprisingly ended up having no problems at the airport and even scored a first class seat on the upper deck of a 747. I didn’t realize 21E was actually one of those privileged seats until I got on the plane, or I wouldn’t have waited in the long economy boarding line. Hurrah, flying high in first class is awesome! For once I wasn’t one of the lowly economy class passengers who have to trudge through the first class area, longingly looking at the huge reclining seats, all the leg room, and personal viewing devices that pop out of the console. There’re even little compartments alongside your seat to store more stuff. Hehehe, I loved it and for the first time, thought the flight wasn’t long enough! Through it all, I felt God quietly letting me know He’s taking care of me.
The plans I thought I had for the Philippines fell through, so I’m trying not to freak out, but to trust God to take care of me, explore on my own, and maybe even reinvent myself and conquer the world in my own little way one moment at a time. I’ll let you know how it goes.
