When I was little, I had this little jar full of Mt St Helens ash that I presume came from my aunt and uncle’s yard since they lived out here at the time of the eruption in May 1980 (and who still live in eastern Washington). As a little girl, I was intrigued with this mountain that exploded, rendering it’s top into the tiny little particles in my jar.
Earlier this month, I finally made it out to take in for myself the crater where my handful of ash came from. Jake’s parents were out visiting and enjoyed the day with us. We were on our way back from a long weekend in Oregon wine country (but of course! It seems no trip with us goes by without a wine tasting or two. Or more. Tee hee.).
I love Airlie winery and the sun-drenched wine tasting experience they offer. Ahhh. Their ’08 Seven is quite possibly my favorite white wine EVER. Seven white wines blended together makes for the perfect wine for a hot summer day and paired plate of Phad Thai. It’s bright, it’s sweet but not too, it’s even a little tangy, leaving the taste buds dancing. Seven, seven, seven, SEVEN. I digress. Excuse the Friends reference, ‘though it does sum up the Seven experience quite nicely. ;) I do miss that show. Good thing I have all ten seasons in DVD for reliving over and over. Jake and I just finished watching all ten through this summer- his first time. He didn’t know it, but the only real requirement to being accepted into my family is to be able to quote Friends successfully. Welcome to the family, my love! :)
My perspective above. Jake’s perspective from the same spot below. Amazing the difference a foot height difference makes!
