“Ladies and gentlemen, United Airlines flight 7127 with service to Charlotte is overbooked. Would anyone willing to volunteer their seat please come to the podium?” I didn’t even have think. I bee-lined it to the podium. I’ll do almost anything for a free flight.
“We’ll have to re-route you through Knoxville, is this okay?” Knoxville? Hmmm… Filipe should still be in Knoxville… “Yup, let’s do it.” A few hours later we were spending happy hour out on a patio in the spring sunshine, talking away. This wasn’t the first time we’ve met up in some random place spur of the moment. Nothing beats hanging out with one of your best friends who travels so much too– cuz they understand your life like no one else. The little surprises in life are beyond amazing.
That night I “slept” at the airport (not so much sleeping as delirious confusion as to where in the world I was), and caught the first flight out to Charlotte, where I would make my connection to Costa Rica. But not before I got to have breakfast at Cracker Barrel with an old friend from my YWAM Seattle days. Jana and I spent two lovely hours together with her baby, catching up on the years since we last saw each other. Mmmmm…. and the sour dough French toast with pure maple syrup wasn’t bad, either!
