You’d think a short little puddle jumper flight from Boston to Toronto would be rather simple… oh, but wait, not necessarily. Not if the tail end of a nor’easter’s blowing through, not if Air Canada decides to cancel only one flight for the day- yours, and not if your traveling on an extremely long RTW ticket that takes forever to modify.
To make a long story of an extremely long day short, I ended up stranded in Chicago for the night (mind you, I wasn’t even supposed to go to Chicago that day), and I found myself standing on the curb at O’hare airport waiting for some old friends from Seattle to pick me up. Yeah, they were wondering at the randomness of it all along with the rest of us.
In the end, it was so worth it to catch up with them. There’s just nothing like having friends where you can just pick up where you left off, no matter how long it’s been. Good times, good conversation, good laughs (along with a few wacked-out You Tube videos on breastfeeding from nurse-to-be Lynette. It was a bit much for the guys. Guess you gotta be fascinated with all things pregnancy like us to appreciate that).
The moral of the story? Don’t be surprised if your phone rings one day soon, and it’s me, calling to say I’m randomly in town, and you wanna hang out?! It could happen.
On to Toronto, but only for a day or two… Americans think Canada is just this frozen-tundra extension of the US, but it’s absolutely not. The people are so, well, nice. And it has it’s own very cool vibe. I wandered around downtown Toronto, surrounded by a mix of historic and modern architecture, with my friend Junior, and we zipped up the CN Tower, the tallest building in the world. That is, if you can call it a building and not just an elevator shaft with a restaurant uptop. Technicalities.
Ah, and this is the place to forget Starbucks– Second Cup’s vanilla bean lattes are where it’s at.
Ring, ring, ring…. Dare you answer it?!
