Lush, infinite shades of green occasionally splashed with hues of purple, pink, and yellow, stretching for as far as the eye can see, broken only by the line of black dotted with yellow paint. Driving through the rainforest south of São Paulo, I could only feel how amazing it is that I am finally here in this place in a car with a couple of my best friends, even if I am smashed up against my luggage in the backseat. (Why the heck did I bring all this junk?! What was all seemingly so necessary at the time of packing, is now just an incredible annoyance. *sigh*) Peering around my carry-on I could take in the constantly changing panorama and let my thoughts wander wherever they would go.
Luiz and Fleur, a Brazilian/Dutch couple and friends of mine from Amsterdam, picked me up at the airport and the next day we took a day’s drive down to a beach town. The next few days found us eating innummerable pieces of pizza washed down with glasses of guaraná, running or lying on the beach soaking up the sun in pure bliss, along with lots of talking and laughing.
Now I’m in Florianópolis, an island city, visiting my friend Kati whom I met in Kona. Brazilians are such warm, fun people. Must learn português. As fast as possible. Other than that, I’m pretty sure there’s some sandboarding and definitely more beaches in my near future. I was telling my friend Filipe today that I’m constantly having to tell myself to calm down or I’ll be in a state of excitment overload thinking about the experiences ahead. :) The world holds much promise!
